Day 29...Insomnia and Procrastination

Day 29, June 18th
23 miles
PCT mile 589

Last night I had a horrible case of insomnia. I was so wide awake I felt like I should just pack everything up and start hiking. Eventually, I did fall asleep so when I woke up at 5:30am, which is later then usual for me (usually I wake up around 5), I pulled the sleeping bag over my head and tried to go back to sleep. I slowly got moving around 6:30am. Just a note about waking up at 5am...in my normal life that is NOT a time you would ever find me waking up naturally or by choice. But on the trail I naturally wake up at that time and get moving slowly there after.

I wasn't in a hurry to jump on the trail this morning. According to the forecast the daytime temperatures after today are going to increase by 8-10 degrees, meaning starting tomorrow ...early starts, so I treated myself to a morning of procrastination. What did I do to procrastinate? Enjoyed my coffee from my sleeping bed, called my mother, just because I had cell service and wanted to say hi, and that's about it. I was packed up and ready to go at 8am...which really wasn't that late.

By 1:30pm I was beat...I found some nice shade cover...I'd happen to be hiking through some trees at the time...and settled in for a nap. Ahhh...the luxurious life of a PCT hiker. Around 2:30 I woke up to a hiker walking past me. A new face...Howl...he had been off trail for an injury for about 3 weeks and started back up today. I packed up my stuff and caught up to him and we hiked into the next water stop together. There we found Swimmer, resupplying on water. 19 miles to the next water station, which none of us would get to tonight so we all stocked up, myself with 5L, I also prepared my dinner, so when I was done hiking tonight it'd be ready to eat. We all headed out together around 6:15pm, Swimmer and Howl pulled off trail at different points, I was feeling good and the legs fresh, so I kept hiking till sunset, then found the next good spot along side the trail.

No!!! More wind turbines! These ones were babies compared to the others.

Collecting water from the slow trickling spring.
